- Visiting Lecturer | University of Winchester Jan 2022- Present Lecturer on Clinical Exercise physiology module geared to galvanising understanding on the effect exercise can have on various long-term conditions and illnesses. • Created and delivered lecture slides on a wide range of conditions including cancer, obesity, cardiovascular disease, pulmonary diseases, and diabetes. Programme Coordinator | Tottenham Hotspur Foundation Aug 2016 - Present Handpicked to support the club's commitment to fighting cancer as part of its cancer exercise programme for adults either living with or recovering from cancer. Managing a high-volume caseload spanning two catchment areas (Enfield and Barnet) whilst co-ordinating own timetable and schedule. Responsibilities include detailed initial evaluation and delivery of one to one exercise sessions and motivational interviewing. • Demonstrating the impact of the programme to sponsors by facilitating data analysis and outcome evaluation, including overseeing the recording of statistics/notes for each individual patient. • Delivering mixed cancer exercise sessions, using the facilities at Barnet Hospital and in collaboration with hospital physiotherapists. • Increasing awareness of the importance of exercise after cancer by delivering speeches on behalf of the club to local charities local GPs, CNS nurses and oncology specialists. • Devising an effective cancer exercise pathway, in liaison with doctors, CNS nurses and oncology specialists, incorporating group sessions for breast cancer/prostate cancer patients with a social element. • Harnessing the many health benefits of physical activity during and after cancer treatment by co-ordinating a new cancer exercise rehabilitation programme at University College London. • Helping to improve quality of life during and after chemotherapy by seeing patients and prescribing tailored made exercise programmes as part of the University College London MDT team at the Lymphoma clinic. CANCER EXERCISE SPECIALIST | Onkohealth Nov 2018 - Apr 2019 A specialised role focused on prescribing exercises and implementing home programmes for individuals about to undergo surgery for varying cancer diagnosis. Operated in direct liaison with surgeons and collaborated with nurses, dieticians, and physiotherapists. Conducted various fitness tests, including spirometry, inspiratory muscle testing and Vo2 Max testing. The role had a strong education and empowerment element. • Devised highly bespoke treatment options for each patient in conjunction with a MDT team, taking into account cancer treatment pathway, current fitness, prognosis and patient perspective. • Constructed and implemented high quality home programmes using Physio Tools and Momentum, enabling regular evaluation of patient exercise progress. • Improved the physical function of patients after surgery by working closely with the lead researchers for PREPARE who implemented strict guidelines on the exercises needed. • Partnered with surgeons and GPs following the PREPARE for surgery guidelines to support patients’ readiness for surgery. FITNESS & WELLBEING ADVISOR | Nuffield Health Feb 2016 - Aug 2016 Supported Nuffield Health patients in fitness and wellbeing during their treatment pathway. The position featured close work with patients suffering from hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes, asthma, stroke, visual impairment, cancer and Parkinson’s. Close liaison with physiotherapists was crucial. • Created an exercise referral pathway between physiotherapists and exercise referral specialists to allow for further treatment of patients. • Key role in the recovery of patients recovering from ACL, MCL, meniscus tears, adhesive capsulitis, hernias, arthritis, spinal compression and musculoskeletal degenerative conditions. • Strengthened consensus for the importance of the role of exercise in rehabilitation of patients across the stakeholder network by delivering lectures and workshops to GP-based physiotherapists and nurses. • Provided detailed, bespoke advice to clients after conducting high standard health assessments, conducting blood glucose/cholesterol/pressure testing, Vo2 max measurements, BMI and waist to hip ratio tests. • Integral in delivery of Nuffield’s Health MOT Assessment training course at head office; teaching blood testing techniques and 1-2-1 coaching skills. • Maximised the skills and capabilities of the fitness team by sharing knowledge of bodyfat testing, foam rolling and myofascial release techniques through group learning, 1-2-1 sessions and publishing of training manuals. Exercise Physiologist | Ability Bow Gym Jun 2012 - Jan 2015 Onboarded to work at an advanced/specialised level, primarily with service users experiencing health or mobility issues. Accountable for the design of various initiatives, gym classes, one to ones and circuit training sessions. Role scope included gym reception support, rapport building, processing payments and risk assessments. • Awarded the role of health and fitness advocate, working in conjunction with personal trainers, GPs and referral trainers on stroke rehabilitation. • Promoted mobility and wellbeing, playing a key role in the delivery of gym classes for people living with multiple sclerosis and diabetes and working individually with service users with Parkinson’s or spinal injuries. • Minimised risk of common injuries in the over 60s cohort by overseeing and delivering the Over 60’s Women’s Fall Prevention Class. • Invited to join the Clinical Commissioning Programme with responsibility for instructing clients with COPD, diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, obesity, mental health issues and high blood pressure. PERSONAL TRAINER / HEALTH CHAMPION | Bromley by Bow Centre Aug 2013 - Aug 2014 Initially appointed as Health Champion, with promotion to Personal Trainer, in reflection of achievements, in Feb 2014. Primary focus was on promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles to a diverse range of service users. Remit included running exercise clubs, providing nutritional advice, and delivering healthy lifestyle sessions. • Engaged the over 60s client cohort in regular exercise; ran an exercise club, inclusive of targeted session delivery to clients with varying medical issues, such as quadruple bypasses, spondylitis and COPD. • Secured full adherence to health and safety protocols across all activities/sessions and took responsibility for ascertaining that full health checks had been conducted on clients. • Empowered service users to make better lifestyle choices by providing nutritional advice underpinned by motivational support and education. • Built relationships with the local community of Tower Hamlets to support healthier lifestyle choices, provide guidance and assist in overcoming barriers.
